CA Unicenter NSM R11.x: Design Considerations
If you are planning to implement the Unicenter NSM R11.x all by yourself then here are a few things which you have to keep in mind before proceeding with the designing or implementation.
Requirement Analysis
- Collect and analyze your business requirements
- Collect all the IT Infrastructure information (locations, network infra details ,servers ,applications and databases details ) and create a list of devices to be managed by NSM R11.x
- Interview business unit heads to gather data on what constitutes the critical business service they are offering (collection of network elements ,databases, servers, applications etc) and how they will define the Service Level Agreement
- For reports and dashboards interview the target audience CEO,CIO, Business Unit Heads, System Administrators, Network Administrators, Database administrators, customers etc .Analyze and document what reports have to be offered , to whom and through what medium
- Coordinate with the security team and share the details of the ports you will require for NSM R11.x to work properly. Collect Information on the current network and system security restrictions in place
- Collect the information on who will have access to the management components of the NSM R11.x and of what level
- Collect the information on the growth for a few years to ensure that the design is scalable with the organizations growth
- Document the impact on people and process
- Document any currently issues with any server or network element to be monitored
- Analyze if the solution has to be in a high availability mode
- Collect information on the automated actions or response in case a specific service is not reachable
- Document the details of the mode of notification (Email ,SMS or Pager) and the group members where the notification should reach
